Nepal needs very little introduction.
Sandwiched between India and China, the country’s backbone is the mighty Himalaya range, a happy accident of geography from the Earth’s violent past. Those majestic mountains have been a lodestone for climbers and trekkers since the days of Hillary and before, but you don’t have to be a hardy adventurer to experience Nepal’s stunning beauty. There’s a trek for people of all ages and abilities, and with new roads being built, it’s increasingly easy to gain access to previously hard to reach areas.
Mountains aside, Nepal has much more excitement to be had. There are lush valleys and roaring rivers aplenty, great for rafting, kayaking and other sports. The blue skies above Pokhara are rarely without paragliders, drifting on thermals and admiring the mountain views. And Chitwan National Park is a wonderful place to get up close with a variety of wildlife, including one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers.
Culturally, the country is a place of endless fascination. The Kathmandu Valley is full of stupas, temples and unique buildings. The blend of Hinduism and Buddhism throughout the country makes for an intriguing mix. And let’s not forget the food – a visit to Nepal will leave you dreaming of momos and Dal Bhat.
With Nepal, once is never enough.
